Celebrating Setsubun with Toyonaka and Mikuni Schools

Greetings Parents and Friends of Toyonaka and Mikuni Schools!

We had a fantastic time celebrating Setsubun with our Nursery, Early Nursery, Pre, JK and K classes at both Toyonaka and Mikuni Schools! Setsubun is a traditional Japanese holiday that marks the end of winter and the start of spring, and is a fun way for children to learn about the symbolism behind banishing evil spirits and welcoming good luck.

The day started with our Nursery and Early Nursery classes at Toyonaka and Mikuni Schools, where the children eagerly awaited the arrival of the Oni (demon) at 10:00 am. The children were given plastic balls to throw at the Oni in an effort to "banish the demon." Although some of the children were frightened at first, they all had a lot of fun.

At Mikuni School, the Pre, JK and K classes met their demon at 10:30 am. They were too excited to see the Oni and throw balls at him in an effort to banish the demon. The children were fearless and had a great time participating in this fun tradition.

At Toyonaka School, the Pre and JK classes had a special surprise - not one, but two Onis arrived at 11:30 am! The children were a little overwhelmed at first, but with encouragement from the teachers, they soon got into the spirit of things and had a lot of fun banishing the demons.

In addition to the ball-throwing, both schools also enjoyed making Setsubun crafts and singing songs. The children had a wonderful time, and everyone was all smiles by the end of the day.

We would like to thank all of the parents and teachers who helped to make this day so special for our children. We hope that everyone enjoyed the Setsubun celebrations as much as we did. We look forward to continuing to share our culture and traditions with our students in the future.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to spring!
