Mikuni | School Blog | Science Week 2023

Mikuni School had an unforgettable Science Week filled with educational and fun experiences for its students. The week was centered around the theme of sustainable development goals, providing a chance for hands-on learning and discovery.

Monday was a busy day as students participated in various experiments. The EN class created a rainbow bridge using colored water, while the N class combined baking soda and vinegar to make fizzing water in a variety of colors. The Pre class learned about baking soda and rice through a dancing rice experiment, and the JK class constructed wind-powered cars, gaining insight into alternative energy sources. The Kindy class also took part in a regrowth experiment using scrap onion leftovers, learning about regrowth and food preservation.

On Tuesday, the learning continued with a range of new experiments. The EN class studied the water cycle by creating a rain-in-a-jar experiment, the N class explored the digestive system with gel and beads in a bag, the Pre class combined washing soap and milk in a magic milk experiment, and the JK class built watermills, understanding energy transfer. The Kindy class explored food preservation by observing bananas rotting under various conditions, such as direct sunlight and in a freezer.

Wednesday was a special day, as the students watched a live-stream of an animal shelter representative and her dog, Blondie, visiting Toyonaka school. The head teacher offered commentary during the event, and all students gathered in the gym to watch the projection of the live-stream.

Thursday was Scientist Day, a day where students dressed up as famous scientists or scientific concepts and learned about the impact they have made on the world.

To end the week, researchers from a university came to Mikuni and demonstrated scientific concepts through an entertaining presentation that was similar to a magic show. The researchers also made a small craft with the students using old milk cartons and rubber bands to create a jumping toy. The week was rounded off with a visit to the science museum, where their class experiments were displayed and they could see their work on display for all to see. The science poster making contest, based on the theme of sustainable development goals, was also a great way for the students to apply their learning and express their creativity.

The week was capped off with a visit to the science museum, where the students' class experiments were displayed for all to see, and the science poster making contest, which allowed students to apply their learning and showcase their creativity based on the theme of sustainable development goals.

In summary, Mikuni Kindergarten's Science Week was an unforgettable experience for its students. Through hands-on learning and discovery, they gained a deeper understanding of science and sustainable development goals. The students had a chance to engage with their peers and express their creativity, making it a week that they will cherish for years to come.
