This year we had such a fun and busy time with our summer school events and program. During this time we invite children from outside of AIwin to join us for three weeks of themed activities and lessons.
During our first week we explored dinosaurs. Each class was assigned a particular dinosaur to learn about, in addition to learning about these fascinating creatures in general. Classes made various dinosaur crafts, such as the triceratops masks that were made by preschool class, or the giant pterodactyl cardboard cut-out that was painted by Junior Kindy.
Craft was not the only activity that was made enjoyable by dinosaurs, as our external Elementary school class measured out a T-rex as part of their math lessons (it is shockingly big!), while early Nursery learned about different types of dinosaur food, such as meat, and vegetables.
In our second week of summer school we became superheroes! Although we did learn about more fantastical deeds done by fictional superheroes we also discovered how we can be super heros in everyday life.
Early Nursery and Nursery classes learned about how to take care of their things and their immediate environment, such as clearing up toys and taking care of litter. While the older classes learned about good behaviors and treating each other respectfully. “Good Manners Man”, was a class favorite for preschool, while Elementary class put their knowledge and skills to good use by making an anti bullying pamphlet, explaining the causes and suggesting responses to bullying.
In our third and final week we learned all about countries from around the world. We also used what we learned to make a country of our own.
Naturally, Early Nursery and Nursery classes produced some really creative pieces of work while also learning about basic concepts of continents and landmasses. While preschool and Junior Kindy classes got very creative, with Preschool class even making their own country inspired by “pikachu” from “pokemon”. Each of these classes learned about the oceans and natural disasters respectively. All the While Elementary class made their own country with a surprising amount of detail. “Unga”, a nation in Africa, with a giant land-locked ocean in the middle was what this class made. They also learned about rain forests and the environment.
All of our work over these three weeks came together in our final school presentation which was streamed for all the parents to see. The children presented something interesting about what they had learned and then took part in various activities around the school. We threw meteors at dinosaurs, helped pirates build ships, fought crime like superheros and even used light to dig for fossils. Our final event day was really exciting!
And finally, perhaps the best part of the entire three weeks was pool time! All our classes had a wonderful time swimming and doing water play together. It helped us get through the sweltering heat of summer and left us with a fun and fresh feeling!
With the start of Obon, our Summer School Event came to a close. We had an excellent time this year and we hope to see everyone again next year! Thank you all for coming!
